JERSEY RUSH 2 A BIG
SUCCESS..... DARYN PITTMAN & JIMMY HORTON SHARE VICTORY LANE
SPOTLIGHT TUESDAY NIGHT AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY
A big
crowd was on hand for the second annual running of the Jersey Rush 2
on Tuesday night at the New Egypt Speedway. With $5,000 on the line,
Daryn Pittman of Owasso, MO took the lead with just three laps
remaining to score the victory in the 30 lap feature for the 410
sprints. In the 30 lap modified feature, veteran driver Jimmy Horton
held off a late race challenge from Ryan Godown to score the victory
and collect the $3,000 first place prize. The well groomed New Egypt
Speedway provided a track surface that allowed eleven different
drivers to break the track record with Daryn Pittman establishing fast
time of the night, stopping the clock with a time of 13.734. Pittman
collected an additional $100 from CmB Mushrooms for setting time.

In the
30 lap Jersey Rush 2 for the 410 sprints, pole sitter Frank Cozze
remained the pace setter with Ryan Smith and Logan Schuchart in the
chase. All eyes were on Daryn Pittman who was on his way to the front
of the pack. On several occasions, Smith challenged Cozze for the
lead, but the former New Egypt Speedway modified champion held on to
the top spot.
At the halfway mark,
Cozze was still the race leader followed by Ryan Smith, Schuchart,
Pittman and Aaron Ott.
On lap seventeen, Cozze, Smith and
Pittman were now in a three car battle for the lead. Just one lap
later, the yellow was displayed for Ryan Bohlke who stopped in turn
two. The restart saw Cozze in control with Smith and Pittman just a
car length behind.
Lap twenty-one saw Smith move to the front
of the pack with Cozze not looking for a way to regain the lead.
The only red flag of the feature was displayed on lap
twenty-seven when Greg Hodnett took a wild flip exiting turn four.
Hodnett walked away uninjured.
The
turning point of the entire race took place on the restart. At the
drop of the green flag, race leader Ryan Smith developed motor
problems and fell off the pace. Cozze took the spot for just a short
time as Daryn Pittman took the high groove and the lead exiting turn
two. Logan Schuchart followed Pittman and took over second with Cozze
now in third. For the remaining two laps, Pittman set the pace to
score the win with Schuchart second with local favorite Frank Cozze
third followed by Mark Smith and Aaron Ott.

The thirty lap modified feature was equally exciting. David Van
Horn led the first lap before mechanical problems sidelined him before
the completion of lap two. Jimmy Horton took over the lead spot at the
time followed by Sam Martz and Sammy Piazza. The restart saw Horton
waltz away from the rest of the field as Ryan Godown and Billy Pauch
were heading to the front of the pack. Horton, Martz and Piazza held
down the top three spots through the halfway point of the race with
Godown and Mike Iles making up the top five.
On lap nineteen,
Ryan Godown moved into third and set his sights on the front runners.
Godown moved into second on lap twenty-six and now had to catch and
pass Horton for the win. With just two lap remaining, Godown pulled
alongside of Horton but didn’t make the pass. The veteran Horton
pulled out all the stops and kept Godown chasing his rear bumper to
the checker flag. Horton took the win followed by Ryan Godown, Sam
Martz, Sammy Piazza and Billy Pauch.
Sprint car heat winners were Greg Hodnett, Ryan Smith and Robbie
Stillwaggon. In the modifieds, David Van Horn, Rick Laubach and
Dominick Buffalino were heat race winners as Tommy Scheetz won the
consolation.
