Pauch Makes Late Charge Pay
Off at NES
New Egypt, NJ (June 4, 2011)
– Billy Pauch of Frenchtown, NJ captured his
second win in a row at New Egypt Speedway Saturday
night as he won the 30 lap Modified event
sponsored by Downs Ford. Pauch, who just won here
two nights ago charged past race long leader Rich
Acolia on lap 27 to post his 5 victory of the
season, the 94th of his storied career at NES.

Modified newcomer in 2011 Rich Acolia jumped out
to the early lead from his outside pole starting
position and quickly ran away and hid from the
field in the early going while hotshoe’s Rick
Laubach, Jimmy Horton and Pauch struggled to move
up thru the field. Gary Butler, Stan Frankenfield
and 8th starter Mike McAleer all battled for
second behind Acolia as he wheeled his #57 far out
in front, at times more than half of a
straightaway. Acolia pulled away on several early
race restarts and then was totally in control of
the event at halfway as he closed in on heavy
lapped traffic. As Acolia caught the backmarkers
on lap 18, the yellow flag was displayed as Bob
Drayton slowed in turn #2. This put 2 time
defending champ Laubach on his bumper as he had
just raced into second while Pauch was in fifth.
But the restart saw Acolia again pull away showing
some exceptional and surprising power as Pauch now
was working the inside and moving up to fourth.
Pauch battled with McAleer for several laps before
grabbing the third position, but then charged by
Laubach for second with the same move as McAleer
tried to also get by a surprised Laubach. The
yellow then came out with just 4 laps remaining
and this time Pauch was second behind Acolia, who
was looking for his first ever win. On the restart
Pauch grabbed the lead, only to have it erased as
the yellow appeared again before a lap could be
completed. The ensuing restart saw Pauch again
dive to the very bottom of turn one and slide up
in front of Acolia for the lead. Once out in front
Pauch pulled away as Laubach then raced by Acolia
and tried to chase down the leader. But the
last few laps belonged to Pauch as the 4 time
champ cruised home the winner by 7 car lengths.
Laubach finished second with Acolia crossing the
line to great applause from the fans in attendance
in third. McAleer and Tad Cox rounded out the top
five.

Defending Champion Jim Housworth of Upper Black
Eddy, PA captured his first feature victory of the
season in the Crate-1 Sportsman 20 lapper.
Houseworth passed leader Steve Hicks in the final
laps to grab top honors as Hicks posted his best
finish to date in second. Kyle Borror, Bryan Kuhl
and early race leader Lee Allen completed the top
five.

In the TriState RaceSaver 305 Sprint Series race,
Phil Meisner Jr. won his first career TSRS Sprint
win in the 20-lap event. Meisner became the sixth
different winner for TSRS in as many events.
Defending champ Jeff Geiges was second, followed
by Johnny Wyers, Jeff Schall and Stephanie
Stevens.

Steve Davis and Rob Ormsbee split the Fastrak Late
Model 12-lap features. Davis took the first one
over Ormsbee and PJ Oliver. Ormsbee took the
nightcap over Davis and Oliver finishing third
again.

In the Cradle Rock Developers Rookie Sportsman
series, Jordan Cox posted the victory, his third
of the year and took the point lead back. John
Desmylk was second and Mike Everett was third.
