Fourth Times The Charm For Billy Pauch At New Egypt Speedway

New Egypt, NJ (August 1, 2009) – On a night where New Egypt Speedway honored one of their greatest fans, fan favorite Billy Pauch of Frenchtown, NJ, captured the checkered flag and the $10,000 modified purse on “Friends of Mike Night” sponsored by K&A Excavating and Lynch-Gray Towing. Pauch beat out some of the best in the business including Rick Laubach, Brett Hearn, John Stangle, Frank Cozze, David Van Horn, Kenny Brightbill, and Keith Hoffman to win his third straight modified feature and his seventh overall this season.

“Right now we have a great combination going,” said a very happy Billy Pauch. “I need to thank Wayne for giving us such a great track to run on. Again we had two groove racing. I started 19th and when I got to second both grooves were working, so when Rick (Laubach) went to the outside I went to the inside. We had a pretty tough field tonight with guys like Brett Hearn and Richie Pratt Jr. They gave us a run for our money, but the New Egypt crew really put on one hell of a race tonight.”

From the beginning of the race pole sitter John Stangle painted himself as a contender leading for the first 19 laps. David VanHorn, an invader from Orange County Fair Speedway in New York, brought out the first caution on lap two as he slowed on the front stretch. A caution on lap eight for Tom Carberry who stopped in turn two, caused a big accident on the lap nine restart that took many good cars out of contention. Willie Osmun, Mike McAleer, and the invader Keith Hoffman collided in turn two taking all three cars out of contention, although Hoffman was able to return to the race. By lap 10, Pauch had begun his move into the top five as he engaged in a battle for the fifth position with another invader Brett Hearn. Pauch continued his move toward the front as Laubach had taken over second and set his sights on the leader Stangle. A caution on lap 19 gave Laubach the chance to pass Stangle off of turn two on a lap 20 restart. That same lap, a caution for Richie Pratt Jr. brought Pauch to the back bumper of Laubach. Pauch took the lead for good on lap 22 when he passed Laubach in turn two. A hard charging Frank Cozze began his move on lap 32 when he moved into the sixth position but by then he was too far behind and Pauch claimed his 78th career victory. Rounding out the top-10 was Rick Laubach, Brett Hearn, John Stangle, Frank Cozze, Mark Forte Jr., Bob Drayton, Dominick Buffalino, John McClelland, and Mike Hendershot.

Ryan Forte of Blue Anchor, NJ, won his second Sportsman feature event this season in dominating fashion, claiming the $1,000 purse. After winning his heat race, Forte dominated the race leading every lap after a first lap pass in turn two of pole sitter Everett Taylor. Rounding out the top-5 was Mike Lyons, Alan Bleacher, Jack Swain, and Lou Farina.

P.J. Oliver of Cream Ridge, NJ, won his second Outlaw Stock feature of the season after a pass with two laps to go on second place finishing Pat Conoway. Oliver looked to be having a little trouble from the start of the race with his car producing heavy smoke throughout much of the event. But he capitalized on Conoway running into lap traffic and held on for the final two laps to capture the victory and the $1,000 purse. Rounding out the top-5 was Conoway, Joe Mongeau, Jason Saredy, and Shannon Mongeau.

On this special evening where drivers are rewarded for their accomplishments in honor of the late Mike Rogie, drivers who won their heat races were awarded an extra bonus thanks to the tremendous fundraising efforts of New Egypt General Manager Danny Serrano. Modified drivers Rick Laubach, Tom Carberry, Billy Pauch, and Keith Hoffman all received a $500 bonus for winning their heat races. Sportsman drivers Ryan Forte and Alan Bleacher were awarded $250 for winning their heats. Vern McLaughlin and Rich Mongeau both received $200 for winning the Outlaw Stock heat races.

The next event at New Egypt Speedway will be the Mud Bog on Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, at 7 p.m. Come see 4x4 trucks and mud skippers maneuver around the track in lots and lots of mud. Next Saturday night, Aug. 8, is Beach Party Night at New Egypt Speedway sponsored by AFX Fencing. The modifies will be in action as will the Super Stocks and Crate-1 Sportsman divisions, plus big wheel races.
