Back to Back Rainouts Set Up
"Friends of Mike"
Labor Day Weekend Double Header
New Egypt, NJ (August 1, 2012)
– Mother Nature has certainly not been kind to New Egypt Speedway in the
past five days as both F.O.M. events fell victim to the weather. After
Saturday’s on and off again thunderstorms and Wednesday’s steady rain,
NES management was forced to reschedule their 7th
Annual Friends of Mike race yet one more time.
much-anticipated 100-lap F.O.M. $10,000-to-win Modified event will now
take center stage on Labor Day Monday, September 3rd. The Sportsman
division will make up the second half of the two-division program, as
they will also compete in their own Friends of Mike $1,500-to-win 25-lap
“We looked at every possibility of a make-up date this
morning, and to be honest this date stood out the most,” offered track
manager Danny Serrano. “With no other tracks running a conflicting
modified or sportsman event that we are aware of, we felt that this date
gives the fans the best chance to see a Friends of Mike Night that they
won’t soon forget. A lot of the fans have off that Monday and we’d love
for them to spend their day with us here at NES in what has now
become one of the most anticipated modified races of the season,”
The Modified portion of the program will remain
the same with all drivers drawing for starting positions for the
$500-to-win heat races and feature starting spots. The Xtreme Graphics
Rogie Rumble III will also be on the docket as 13 drivers will wage war
in the one-on-one popular match races. The last man standing will
receive a quick $1,000, trophy, and life-size check courtesy of Xtreme
The Sportsman segment will see a change from the
original scheduled format from July 28. The ‘Invitational’ portion of
the program has been dropped. The new format will find the Sportsman
competing in an ‘open’ show with all competitors drawing for heat race
and feature starting positions. Sportsman heat race winners will
receive the traditional F.O.M. bonuses as they have in the past.
The Gift Auction will resume Monday afternoon prior the starting time of
4pm. The annual auction helps raise money that directly goes into the
purses for all the divisions for Friends of Mike. Hundreds of framed
pictures, gift baskets, NASCAR and Dirt collectibles, and all kinds of
racing goodies will all be up for grabs on Monday afternoon.
Saturday, September 1st schedule for NES has been adjusted accordingly
to accommodate the modified teams for Monday’s 100 lap event. The
modifieds have now been removed from Saturday’s schedule and have been
replaced with the Outlaw Stocks. The Outlaw Stocks will join the Crate-1
Sportsman, TSRS 305 Sprint Cars, and the Fastrak Late Models in a
four-division show. The make-up Twin 20 modified feature orginally from
April 28 will now be added to the September 8 racing program.
Outlaw Stock portion of the show has been redesigned as a normal
handicapped point show that will now carry the same F.O.M. purse as
posted from the original race date. The $1,000-to-win feature will now
be increased to 30 laps rather than the originally scheduled 20 laps.
The winners of the heat races will receive cash awards in traditional
The Crate-1 Sportsman, who were already scheduled
to compete on September 1, will compete in their Friends of Mike race as
well, rather than originally scheduled October 27 date. The Crate-1
drivers will be competing in a 40-lap $1,200-to-win handicapped full
With a busy Labor Day Weekend planned in the
tri-state area, NES management is fully aware of the important races
taking place throughout the weekend. “I think it’s truly a tremendous
weekend to be a race fan in our area, especially with the other big
races prior to Friends of Mike,’ suggested the track's general manager.
Any fans that attend Brideport’s Friday night Poker Race, the NES
Saturday racing program, or Big Diamond’s Sunday Coal Cracker show will
receive a $5 discount (with proof of track’s wristband) at the front
gate on Monday.
“We know that the race fans will have many
choices to make that weekend. We just wanted to offer a little
something to make it easier on them if they want to attend this year’s
Friends of Mike Race after visiting their home tracks earlier in the
weekend. We're also going to start a little earlier on Monday so we can
have the fans and race teams home at a reasonable hour,” added Serrano.
All gates will open at
1pm and racing will start at 4pm on Monday, September 3. Adult admission
is $30, students 12-15 are $15, and children 11 and under are FREE. Pit
admission is $40 no license required. For more information please
