Friends of Mike 100-Lap Race Rescheduled for Wednesday, August 1st
New Egypt, NJ (July 29, 2012)
– After a third round of thunderstorms hit New Egypt Speedway this past
Saturday afternoon, the much anticipated annual Friends of Mike event
was postponed for the first time in its seven year history. With
an already saturated racing surface, and more severe storms predicted
throughout the evening, management was left with no other decision but
to reschedule Saturday’s racing program.
‘We had everything in
place on Saturday.
The fans, the cars, the auction, the barbeque, you name it but we just
couldn’t control the weather,’ offered a disappointed track manager
Danny Serrano. ‘You
have no idea how bad we wanted to get this race in on Saturday but it
just wasn’t meant to be I guess.
We looked at many options for a rain date trying to take
NES’s schedule, the driver’s schedules, and the auction into account.
After extensive talks we felt it would be best
to have it this coming Wednesday, August 1,’ Serrano explained.
This coming Wednesday, August 1 has been set for the Friends of Mike
make-up race date.
The original schedule of events has been revised in order to accommodate
a mid-week racing program.
The big block modified 100-lap $10,000-to-win, $1,000-to-start
Friends of Mike race will highlight the evening’s festivities.
Joining the modifieds will be Outlaw Stock
division, where they will compete in a special $1,000 to win 20-lap
feature. The
Sportsman portion of the originally scheduled July 28 program will be
made up a later date soon to be announced.
An all-star studded
field of modifieds had already assembled in the pit area on Saturday
before the rains came.
The state of New York was well represented as Matt Sheppard, Tim
McCreadie, Stewart Friesen were in attendance, while Billy Decker, Bobby
Varin, and Danny Johnson were en route to the speedway when the official
cancellation was made.
New Egypt’s own Ryan Godown, David Van Horn, Sammy Martz, and
Willie Osmun were just a few of the NES regulars already checked in.
NES non-regulars Richie
Pratt, Jimmy Horton, Kenny Brightbill, Wade Hendrickson, Gary Tomkins,
Ryan Watt, and Rick Laubach are already pre-entered for the 100-lap
affair.
The Xtreme Graphics Rogie Rumble III will still be on the
docket this coming Wednesday as a dozen drivers will be vying for the
‘winner-take-all’ $1,000 to win match races.
Heat races for the modified field will still pay
a generous $500 for each 10-lap qualifier.
The popular ‘Chinese
Auction’ will once again start the F.O.M. events off on Wednesday
afternoon. Lucky
fans will be able to take home hundreds of beautiful prizes that will be
up for grabs throughout the night in the turn four picnic area.
Both Pit and Front gates will open at 3pm on Wednesday, August 1.
Hot laps begin at 6pm with racing scheduled to
start at 6:30pm.
Adult admission is $30, students 12-15 are $15, and children 11 and
under are FREE. Pit
admission is $40 no license required (NES DRIVER license holders will be
acknowledged as if it were a regular Saturday event).
Wristbands from Saturday will be honored at on
Wednesday or any other Saturday event for the remainder of the season.
