NEW
EGYPT INCREASES EASTERN SPRINT SWING TO 4 DATES
(April
7, 2010) -
The
three-eighths clay New Egypt Speedway in New Jersey has been added
to
the upcoming USAC Eastern Sprint Car Swing, bringing the total of
races to
four in four nights. The New Egypt date is Thursday, June 3, making
it round
three of the tour.
The
race, featuring the stars and cars of USAC's AMSOIL National Sprint
Car Series, will be the first for USAC at the New Jersey oval and
the first
for the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Cars in New Jersey in 32 years! Tom
Bigelow won the last, at the Flemington Fairgrounds in June of 1978.
The
Eastern Swing begins on Tuesday night, June 1, at Grandview Speedway
in Bechtelsville, Pa. Grandview race organizers Bob Miller and Bruce
Rogers have teamed up with track management to promote the race at New
Egypt. "New Egypt is a great addition to an already exciting
Eastern Swing,"
said Miller. "USAC
racing is awesome and like many race fans I can't wait
to see these guys take on this tricky oval." Other Eastern
Swing dates
are Wednesday, June 2, at the Lincoln Speedway in New Oxford, Pa.
and Friday,
June 4 at Big Diamond Raceway in Minersville, Pa. The Big Block Modifieds
will share the billing with the Sprint cars at New Egypt, competing
in a series of qualifying events leading up to a 25-lap feature. Race
time will be 7:30 pm.
Damion
Gardner of Concord, Calif. has begun the 2010 campaign with four
victories in five starts and has the early-season point lead. He
posted "top-10"
finishes in all three Eastern races last season.
Jesse
Hockett of Warsaw, Mo. is the defending race winner at Grandview,
while Cole Whitt recorded victories at Minersville and Mercer, Pa.
in 2009.
USAC
has had only sporadic appearances in New Jersey since Bigelow's Flemington
win. The last three USAC races in New Jersey were Ford Focus events
at Wall Stadium in Belmar in 2006 and 2007.
