David VanHorn Scores First New Egypt Speedway Track Championship Worth $10,000

David VanHorn Scores First New Egypt Speedway Track Championship Worth $10,000

New Egypt, NJ – Ringoes, NJ native David Van Horn picked up his first career New Egypt Speedway track championship this past Saturday after Mother Nature washed out the New Egypt Speedway Modified points finale. It is VanHorn’s third career track championship as he won the Small-Block Modified championship in 2007 and backed it up with a Big-Block Modified title at the Orange County Fair Speedway in 2008, he is the ninth different Modified champion in the track’s 21-year history as a dirt track.

“It was a solid team effort, we were very consistent and that’s what it takes to win a championship. There’s a very talented field at New Egypt week in and week out. I have to thank Fred for giving me the opportunity to drive his car. Also if it weren’t for my dad and Jeff this season would not have been possible”, said VanHorn.

It was a duel between two of the most famous last names in New Jersey racing history in VanHorn and Billy Pauch Jr. as the pair finished one-two on opening night making it obvious from the onset of the 2018 season that it would be a two-car battle for the $10,000 New Egypt Speedway Modified crown.

After winning the first two races of 2018, Pauch Jr. led the points up until Memorial Day weekend where a mechanical failure relegated him to a 19th place finish handing the point lead over to VanHorn.

Consistency would be the key during the summer months, as VanHorn would not finish any worse than tenth but Pauch Jr. would not be far behind as following the June 16th event, VanHorn would hold just a two-point lead over Pauch Jr. after DVH finished to second to Pauch Jr. on the night

DVH would pick up his only New Egypt Speedway victory of 2018 in a show-up points only event during the Garden State Gunfight where he annihilated the field on his way to the $6,000 victory.

As the summer weeks clicked off the two would go tit for tat with each other, one week VanHorn would finish in front of Pauch Jr., the following week it would be vice versa and the week after that they would swap who finished in front of who yet again.

It all appeared to end though on August 18th as a blown motor would put VanHorn out of the feature with 22nd place finish handing the point lead back to Pauch Jr. who would finish second on the evening heading into Twin-20’s the next week with a 23-point lead.

The first Twin-20 on September 1st had VanHorn lining up in front of Pauch Jr. based off his handicapping from the previous three races. As the race went on Pauch Jr. made his way forward and around VanHorn running as high as sixth until disaster stuck with the Rick Holsten owned No. 96 running out of fuel on the last lap of the race forcing him to finish in the 13th position, seven spots behind VanHorn.

When the green flag dropped on the second Twin-20 due to the inversion, VanHorn already had a seven-position lead on Pauch Jr. heading into what would ultimately be the final Modified points race of 2018. DVH would work his way methodically through the field-finishing runner-up to Brandon Grosso with Pauch Jr. coming home in the sixth position.

Unfortunately Mother Nature would step in on Saturday September 9th ending the Modified points race handing the championship to VanHorn over Pauch Jr. by just five points.

“We overcame a lot this year, especially after that blown motor, I almost thought it was over. That goes to show you the perseverance and heart that our team has, our team never quits,” VanHorn said.

To tell you how close the two of them really were in 2018, VanHorn ends the 2018 NES points race without a points-paying win, nine Top-5’s and 13 Top-10’s in 15 points paying races, while Pauch Jr. had three wins, seven Top-5’s and 11 Top-10’s. The only time VanHorn failed to finish out of the Top-10 was on May 9th following a flat tire and August 18th with a blown motor.

VanHorn wins the 2018 championship with 795 points. Pauch Jr. would end the 2018 season second in points with 790 points followed by Danny Bouc in third with 743 points, Brandon Grosso fourth with 740 points after missing two races, John McClelland in fifth with 726 points, Kevin Vaclavicek in sixth with 693, Ryan Krachun seventh with 671, a trio of Modified rookies Davey Sammons eighth with 629 and JR Fulper ninth with 623 and Matt Stangle tenth with 616.

VanHorn also currently sits in the third place in the Short Track Super Series South Region behind Ryan Watt and Matt Sheppard.

KUHL AND GROSSO COLLECT MODIFIED FEATURE VICTORIES AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY

KUHL AND GROSSO COLLECT MODIFIED FEATURE VICTORIES AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY

New Egypt, NJ (September 2, 2018) – At New Egypt Speedway’s Twins Night presented by Flemington Car & Truck Country Family of Dealerships, Bryan Kuhl and Brandon Grosso each won a Modified feature. In the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series, Mark Bitner picked up the win in the scheduled feature while Ryan Stillwaggon was victorious in the postponed main event originally scheduled for April 14. The Crate Modified feature went to John Criscione while Jermain Godshall took top honors in the main event for the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars.

After several attempts, the first of two 20-lap features for the Modifieds got underway with Rocco Infante on top. On the third revolution, Bryan Kuhl slipped by John Pakenham to move into second. By lap five, Kuhl was challenging Infante for the lead.  At the halfway point with Infante still in charge, the caution flag waved for a tangle between Rich Rutski and PJ Oliver. On the ensuing restart, Kuhl bolted past Infante and ascended to the front of the pack with Infante and Chad Barney next in line. With six laps left, Barney drove by Infante for second as Kuhl was stretching out his advantage. Although the margin between Kuhl and Barney would close in the final laps, Kuhl went unchallenged to register his first career Modified win. Barney’s strong run netted him second. With Infante finishing third, Pakenham came home in fourth. Brian Papiez was fifth after starting the race in twelfth.

With the top eleven finishers inverted for the second 20-lap Modified feature, polesitter Brandon Grosso grabbed the lead with Matt Stangle and Kevin Vaclavicek in tow. Following a trio of cautions, Grosso was still on top with seven circuits completed and Vaclavicek was in second. Stangle regained the runner-up position on lap eight just before the yellow lights illuminated for Rich Rutski. At the halfway point, Grosso was still pacing the field with Stangle in second, Davey Sammons in third and David VanHorn in fourth. On the eleventh revolution, the yellow flag waved for the final time for an incident between JR Fulper and Ryan Krachun. When racing resumed, the top two of Grosso and Stangle remained intact and VanHorn advanced into third as a mechanical issue forced a slowing Sammons to drop out of the race. With five to go, Grosso was cruising along as VanHorn was reeling in Stangle. Grosso would lead every lap of the contest to score his second win of the year. VanHorn got by Stangle with two circuits left to finish in second. With Stangle taking third, Vaclavicek was fourth and Chad Barney was fifth. The Modified heats were won by Brandon Grosso, Chad Barney and Davey Sammons. JR Fulper won the consolation race.

Polesitter Mark Bitner led from start to finish to win the 20-lap main event for the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Cars. The victory was the first of the year for Bitner in the series and his eighth career checkered flag at New Egypt Speedway. The runner-up spot was claimed by Andy Best. Austin Bishop completed the race in third. Eddie Wagner came from his eighth starting position to finish in fourth. Fifth was taken by Jason Dunn. Jeff Geiges and Austin Bishop were victors in the qualifying races for the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Cars.

In the 20-lap feature for the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Cars from April 14, Ryan Stillwaggon overtook Jeff Geiges with two circuits remaining and pulled away to capture his first career New Egypt Speedway checkered flag. The victory was the second of the year for Stillwaggon in the series. Geiges, who led the opening eighteen tours, finished second. Third went to Mark Bitner. Austin Bishop was fourth and Eddie Wagner came home in fifth.

After taking the lead from Aaron Weaver on lap five, John Criscione motored away from his rivals to claim the top prize in the 20-lap Crate Modified feature. This was Criscione’s third career victory. Weaver held on for second with Joe Toth taking third. Twelfth place starting Connor King was fourth. Eric Palmer completed the top five. John Criscione and Eric Palmer took the Crate Modified heat contests.

In the 20-lap main event for the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars, Jermain Godshall powered out of the final corner of the last lap to edge out Duane Nixon for his second victory of the year. With Nixon taking second after leading nineteen tours of the race, Brian Spencer was third. Joey Biasi, the heat race winner, wound up in fourth and Heidi Hedin was fifth.

On Saturday, September 8 at New Egypt Speedway, the 2018 track champion in the Modified division will be decided on Modified Championship and First Responders Night. All First Responders will receive free grandstand admission with proper identification. Along with the Modifieds, the Hammer Sportsman, Street Stocks and 4-Cylinders will be in competition. The pit area opens at 3:00 p.m. with the grandstand gates unlocking at 4:00 p.m. Hot laps get cranked up at 5:00 p.m. and the racing action begins at 6:00 p.m. Admission to the grandstand is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors 65 and older, $10 for teens 12-15, $10 for military personal and their spouses with ID, and Kids 11 & under are free. As the 20-lap Hammer Sportsman feature began, Jimmy Amato pedaled to the front with Ryan Heim and Bob Lineman Jr. next in line. On the second circuit, Lineman Jr. motored past Heim for second just before the yellow lights illuminated on the track for Pat Wall. When action resumed, Lineman Jr. swept past Amato for the lead. Heim regained second place by slipping by Amato on the fourth lap. Seventh place starting Cale Ross continued his advancement towards the front by gaining third place on the fifth revolution. At the halfway point, Lineman Jr. was comfortably in front with Heim, Ross and David Burns in tow. With a good stretch of green flag racing, Lineman Jr. continued his solid advantage over his rivals until Mickey Kessler’s ride stopped in turn two with one lap remaining. On the ensuing restart, Lineman Jr. kept his lead and he was approaching the finish line when a fourth corner incident between Heim and Ross brought out the caution flag for the final time. As the green flag waved again, Lineman Jr. kept his advantage over the new second place runner, Burns, to take his second consecutive win and third of the year. With the runner-up spot going to Burns, Art Liedl came from the ninth starting spot to finish third. Will Dupree was fourth and Joseph Brown was fifth. The Hammer Sportsman heat race victors were Bob Lineman Jr. and Cale Ross.

Following a skirmish with three laps to go between the first and second place competitors, Dan Fleming inherited the top running position and led the rest of the way for his second 20-lap Crate Modified feature win in a row. After Aaron Weaver was in front for the opening circuit, John Criscione took over with Joe Toth proceeding into second. As the race advanced in the second half, the top two of Criscione and Toth remained intact with Dan Fleming riding in third. Racing in tight quarters, Toth was able to take the lead from Criscione on lap seventeen just before contact by Criscione sent Toth spinning in turn one. Due to the incident, Criscione was relegated to the back of the field and Fleming became the new leader. Fleming would lead the final circuits to score the victory. Kyle Kania wound up in second with Eric Palmer finishing third. Fourth place went to Ryan Simmons and Johnny Bangs finished in fifth. Johnny Bangs, George Gareis Jr., and John Criscione won the Crate Modified qualifying races.

In the 20-lap main event for the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars, Heidi Hedin wired the field to garner her first career checkered flag. Hedin repelled challenges by Karl Freyer to claim the win in the non-stop race. With the point leading Freyer finishing second, Jermain Godshall was third. Heat winner Brian Spencer netted fourth place and Rich Mellor was fifth.

After taking the lead from Jerry Stanzione on the third circuit, Jon Meyer paced his rivals the remaining distance to win the 15-lap Street Stock race. The victory was Meyer’s fourth of the year and sixth of his career. Bill Liedtka came home in second place. Third place was taken by Jimmy Avery. Mick Search and Billy Wroble completed the top five.

In the non-stop 15-lap affair for the 4-Cylinders, Justin Dunn led every step of the way and held off the advances of the Garey clan to capture his first feature win of the season. Joe Garey Jr. nipped his father at the line to claim second. With Joe Garey Sr. taking third, JC Duvall was fourth and Doug Ashford was fifth.

The Hammer Sportsman main event was won by Bob Lineman Jr. Karl Freyer was triumphant in the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Car feature.

As the 30-lap Modified feature got underway, PJ Oliver grabbed the lead. Sixth place starting Ryan Krachun was quickly on the move as he traveled into the runner-up spot with three laps in the books. After the yellow lights illuminated on the third circuit, Oliver was still on top with Krachun in second and Billy Pauch Jr., who started the contest in eleventh, motoring into third. Krachun was beginning to reel in Oliver just before two appearances of the yellow flag on the seventh revolution. Once racing resumed, Krachun raced past Oliver to gain first place with Pauch Jr. slipping into second and Oliver, Steve Davis and Jimmy Horton next in line. Following an additional caution period, Krachun was still setting the pace at the halfway point with Pauch Jr., Davis, Oliver and TJ Lilly completing the top five. One tour later, Horton would work his way past Lilly to regain fifth. With ten laps to go, Krachun had a three-car advantage over Pauch. Jr. On lap twenty one, David VanHorn, who was the point leader entering the race, stopped in the fourth corner to bring out the final yellow flag of the contest. When the green flag waved, Krachun repelled another challenge by Pauch Jr. to maintain his lead with Oliver, Davis, and Horton rounding out the top five. With only five to go, Krachun and Pauch Jr. had pulled away from the field with Krachun having a two-car length advantage. Over the final tours, Krachun continued his strong pace to record his third career checkered flag and his first since 2015. With Pauch Jr. finishing in second, Oliver netted third. Davis came home in fourth and Horton captured fifth. The Modified heat races were claimed by PJ Oliver, Steve Davis, and Billy Pauch Jr. Brandon Grosso was the victor in the consolation contest.

Ryan Heim, the 2018 Rookie Champion, completed the contest in fifth. David Burns and Bob Lineman Jr. won the qualifying events for the Hammer Sportsman.

After gaining the lead from Duane Nixon on the sixth circuit, Karl Freyer paced the field for the remaining distance to take the 20-lap feature for the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars. The victory was Freyer’s third of the season as he continues to sit on top of the point standings. Rich Mellor followed Freyer across the finish line. Third went to Lee Nardelli. BOUC BAGS HIS SECOND MODIFIED WIN OF THE SEASON AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY

BOUC BAGS HIS SECOND MODIFIED WIN OF THE SEASON AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY

New Egypt, NJ (August 5, 2018) – On National Parts Supply’s Scout Night at New Egypt Speedway, Danny Bouc bagged his second Modified feature of the season. The Hammer Sportsman feature was captured by Joseph Brown. Rich Mellor claimed the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Car main event.

As the 30-lap feature for the Modifieds got underway, PJ Oliver grabbed the lead over Davey Sammons and Bryan Kuhl.  By the seventh tour, the top two of Oliver and Sammons were engaged in a duel for the top spot. On the next circuit, Sammons had just taken command when the yellow flag appeared as Oliver appeared to have grazed the inside guardrail in the fourth turn and spun. After another caution on lap nine for a flat on Matt Stangle’s ride, Sammons was still in control with John McClelland and fourteenth place starting Billy Pauch Jr. next in line. Following another caution and restart, Sammons was still setting the pace with Pauch Jr., McClelland, Danny Bouc and David VanHorn in tow as the contest reached the halfway point. Just after the midway mark of the race, Bouc, who started the feature in sixteenth, moved his racecar to the upper groove and the tactical change quickly helped his efforts to move forward. On lap eighteen, Bouc drove by Sammons to take over the front running spot just before the yellow lights illuminated for a multi-car tangle on the track. When the green flag waved again, Bouc remained in first with Pauch Jr. motoring into the runner-up spot for one lap until VanHorn ascended into second on the next revolution. As the event progressed into the final third, the scoreboard showed Bouc in front with VanHorn in second and Sammons in third. With five to go, Bouc was pulling away from his rivals as Sammons was using the high line to reel in VanHorn for second. On lap twenty-six, Sammons swept past VanHorn to retake the spot. Over the closing laps, Bouc continued to increase his advantage to take his second win of the season and tenth of his career at New Egypt Speedway. A strong run by Sammons netted the Modified rookie second place. With VanHorn finishing third, Brandon Grosso was fourth and McClelland came home in fifth. The Modified heat races were won by David VanHorn, Davey Sammons and Billy Pauch Jr.

After taking the lead from Bob Rambone on the second circuit, Joseph Brown survived several restarts in the first half of the 20-lap Hammer Sportsman feature to capture his first career checkered flag. Brown, who was a rookie at New Egypt Speedway in 2017, started the race in third. Pat Wall followed Brown and finished in second place. Third place was taken by Jimmy Amato. Will Dupree was fourth and fifth went to Cale Ross. Joseph Brown and Pat Wall were victors in the qualifying events for the Hammer Sportsman.

In the 20-lap Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Car feature, Rich Mellor took the lead with six circuits to go and survived a late restart to gain his first career victory. Duane Nixon led the field for the opening nine tours before Jermain Godshall gained the top spot following a restart. Using an inside maneuver in the fourth corner, the fifth place starting Mellor hopped to the front of the field on lap fourteen. Mellor repelled a challenge by Lee Nardelli following a caution period with two laps left to snare the win. Nardelli was second with Karl Freyer taking third. Heidi Hedin, the heat race winner, and Brian Spencer completed the top five.

On Saturday, August 11 at New Egypt Speedway, Eastern Auto Parts Warehouse Night takes place with six feature events. WALL WINS THE MR. SPORTSMAN CLASSIC AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY

WALL WINS THE MR. SPORTSMAN CLASSIC AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY

New Egypt, NJ (July 29, 2018) – At New Egypt Speedway, Pat Wall won the Mr. Sportsman Classic. Dan Fleming was the victor in the Crate Modified feature. The main event for the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars went to Karl Freyer. Bill Liedtka took home the checkered flag in the Mr. Street Stock Classic. Rob Longo was the victor in the 4-Cylinder contest.

After the original start of the 30-lap Mr. Sportsman Classic for the Hammer Sportsman was marred by an incident, Pat Wall grabbed the lead on the ensuing green with Jimmy Amato and Will Dupree in his tracks. Following several additional appearances of the yellow flag in the opening tours of the extra distance contest, Wall was still in top with five laps recorded. Behind Wall, a tight battle for second between Cale Ross and Kyle Kania was occurring and Kania passed Ross on lap six for the position. With a third of the race completed, the top three of Wall, Kania, and Ross were in close quarters and Bob Lineman Jr. was trying to fend off David Burns for fourth. On lap fourteen, Lineman’s race night came to end when a mechanical issue caused him to slow and stop on the track. When action resumed, Wall maintained his lead with Kania and Ross still dueling for position. On lap seventeen, Ross slipped by Kania to regain the runner-up spot. Following a caution period for Jason Kosch on the eighteenth circuit, racing got back underway with Wall still on top as Kania worked his way past Ross to retake second. Over the final ten laps of the race, Wall survived two additional restarts and continued to use the low groove of the dirt track to win his third feature of the year. Kania finished in the runner-up spot with Ross taking third. Burns was fourth and Joe Nappi netted fifth. Billy Osmun and Cale Ross were the Hammer Sportsman heat race victors.

After a June 30 accident destroyed his race car, Dan Fleming returned to the Crate Modified ranks and led from start to finish to win the 20-lap feature. Using a car previously wheeled by Modified driver Ryan Godown, Fleming racked up his second victory of the season. Rookie Kevin Borden Jr. was second. Third went to Ryan Simmons. Jeremy Martino completed the race in fourth and fifth was claimed by Eric Palmer. The Crate Modifieds qualifying races went to Ryan Simmons and Kyle Kania.

Following a late race miscue by Jermain Godshall, Karl Freyer inherited the lead and went on to snatch his second checkered flag of the season in the 20-lap main event for the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Car. Godshall led the contest from the start until he brushed the inside wall with four circuits remaining. Nick Wean followed Freyer across the finish line. Rich Mellor was third. Lee Nardelli took fourth and fifth place was grabbed by Duane Nixon. The heat races in the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars division were won by Rich Mellor and Karl Freyer.

For the second year in a row, Bill Liedtka topped the field in the 35-lap Mr. Street Stock Classic. Marty Derr led the opening two tours before Jimmy Avery took command. Following a restart, Liedtka became the new point man on lap four. One revolution later, Jon Meyer passed Liedtka to assume the lead. After another caution period, Liedtka returned to the top of the pack with six laps completed. Liedtka fended off several challenges from Meyer in the first half of the contest to gain his fourth win of the year. Meyer finished in second. A strong run netted Mick Search third place. Fourth went to Avery and Billy Wroble was fifth.

After taking the lead on the fourth circuit, Rob Longo paced the field the remaining distance to capture the 15-lap 4-Cylinder race. Longo survived a restart and challenge from Joe Garey Sr. with two laps to go to secure the win in his first appearance at New Egypt Speedway this year. With Garey Sr. finishing second, Ian Ashford, who led the first three laps, came home in third. Brian Osborne and Bruce McClaren completed the top five.

On Saturday, August 4 at New Egypt Speedway, National Parts Supply presents Scout Night. All scouts in uniform will be admitted for free to the grandstand. On the track, the Modifieds, Hammer Sportsman and Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars will be in action. Competitors can begin to enter the pits at 4:00 p.m. and the grandstand ticket windows open at 5:00 p.m. Hot laps start at 6:00 p.m. and racing gets underway at 7:00 p.m. Admission to the grandstand is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors 65 and older, $10 for teens 12-15, $10 for military personal and their spouses with ID, and Kids 11 & under are FREE.
